Mood Board of Rock Music Magazines.

For my coursework task I am to complete a music magazine. My genre is rock/indie/alternative rock and so I looked at the most famous magazines I could find. I chose these magazines as I thought that they all had a really famous band or solo artist on the front in which they use good colours and all make a scene within the cover.

Preliminary Task- Contents Page.

This is my preliminary contents page in which I used photoshop and powerpoint to edit and play around with photos and different fonts. I like the colours I have used as I think they are bold and have stood out well, I have used a variety of pictures so that the background is still there but the pictures all are apart of the magazine and link in well. The date is at the top so it isnt the main thing that people look at aswell as the website. I used arrows to direct the page numbers to the pictures and subheadings.

Preliminary Task- Front Cover.

This is my front cover photography magazine. I took the photos myself and used photoshop and powerpoint to edit the piece as a whole. I started it on Powerpoint so that it would be easier to layout and less complicated than photoshop. The photos all link in well to the magazine and the font and colour stands out bold against the background colour. My stories also link in well to the contents page so it isnt complicated to the readers. The date, title and price as well as the Greenshaw logo is stated obviously on the front so we can see what it is. I added a hot story so that the magazine is intriguing and grabs attention.

I have changed my contents page slightly as here I had pictures going down in a slightly diagonal way but I changed it on my real Contents page to randomly placed on the page. I also changed the numbered headings to not just placed there but it to have arrows placed towards the pictures to match the stories and pages.

Rough Prliminary Front Cover.

I initially wanted to have the front cover with the picture covering the entire background, but as I started to edit the front cover I felt that as it was a magazine for Greenshaw, it would do more justice having a green background to show a little bit of their background. I edited some of the pictures out as i felt that having a few more would be too distracting on the cover. I wanted to try and keep it simple but interesting enough to intrigue teenagers to read it and feel like they want to have it each day. I did a basic font on here but changed it to a more interesting one when completing the real one as it needs to be catchy.

The first contents and front cover page i thought had a good layoutas it was clear and easy to read, the pictures were straight forward and the font was easy to read and bold with the colours. I dont like this layout however as I dont think it represents a modern school of today and I dont think it is exciting to look at. If it had different colours for the background it would look more attractive and would be more intriguing for the youths to read.


I think the front cover of the next school magazine is inviting and very attracive, I like that it has the school logo and from them colours it has been incorporated onto the entire page to create a sense of reality to school. the pictures are straight forward and the font and colours are easy to read, so overall I really like this. It also has a catchy slogan and the stories follow through to the magazine.I dont like the contents page as I think the layout isnt spread out very well. The block colours with writing over the top isnt interesting to look at and the pictures arent very exciting so it doesnt make us want to read on through. The page numbers arent clear to read over the photographs and the pictures have been cropped to then point where we cant see what it says.


I dont like the front cover of the last page as I think its too boring and plain. It has a dull background colour and the font is the only thing that stands out as well as the purple and black colours. There are no other pictures on the front cover including no hot spot picture and no stories to go with it. The contents page however is more exciting, has a lot more photos and has font that stands out and grabs attention. The colours are attractive and it adds to the exciting feel of the school magazine. The pictures dont go with the stories but it stops the page from being plain.

Photoshop Task.

This was my photoshop task just to get used to photoshop and to try out my first magazine front cover. I used a variety of different colours just to grab attention and add to the feel of the series. I used different fonts and logos and also added well known photos that people would recognise and relate too. I used magic wand to rub out and create an effect around the grafitti with the pentagon tool. I merged the blue mist around the photo of the characters and using the layers I created an effect cover.

Hey!
My name is Jodee Deakin, I'm currently studying Media at A levels and as my brief I have to come up with a double page spread, contents page and a front cover as a Music Magazine. I have to show my work in a variety of materials and have a different look on the industry as a whole.
I have to complete a preliminary task of a 'Skins' front cover in which I completed on adobe photoshop and then another in which I do a school cover and contents page which i chose to base on Photography.
